Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11/6/2026

At websitesummarizer.org, your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Website Summarizer, our AI webpage summarization service. We aim to be transparent and to follow applicable data protection laws, including the GDPR and CCPA where they apply.

1. Information We Collect

  • Webpage URLs: The webpage address you paste, the summary mode you choose, and, when that option is offered, a follow-up question about the page.
  • Fetched page content: Publicly readable text from that URL, fetched so the model can write the summary. It is processed to fulfill the request and is not kept as a saved copy of the page.
  • Account information: If you choose to create an account or sign in, we store the email address and the sign-in method you use, such as a password, a passkey, or Google. An account is optional for the basic URL tool.
  • Contact-form fields: If you write to us, we store your name, email address, subject, and message so we can reply.
  • Usage and device data: Google Analytics may record pages viewed, device type, and browser information under Google's default settings. Server logs may also include an IP address for security, rate limits, and abuse prevention.

You can summarize a public webpage URL without an account. The basic tool collects the URL you submit, the summary mode, and the page text fetched to write the summary.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use this information to:

  • Fetch a public page and generate the summary you asked for
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Service, including optional accounts
  • Respond to messages you send through the contact form
  • Prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, and diagnose errors

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

We use these providers to run the Service:

  • Evolink – receives the fetched page text and your summary request so a Claude-class text model can write the summary
  • Google Analytics – measures how the site is used, under Google's default retention and settings
  • Cloudflare – hosts the site and provides performance and security protections
  • Google – handles sign-in only if you choose Sign in with Google
  • Stripe – processes a payment only if you buy an optional paid feature

These providers have their own privacy policies. Review those policies for how they handle data.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site, keep sessions, measure use, and protect the Service.

Types of Cookies:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the site to function, including security and load balancing. These cannot be turned off from within the product.
  • Authentication Cookies: A session cookie keeps you signed in when you create an account or sign in. The basic summarizer works without this cookie.
  • Analytics Cookies: Google Analytics cookies help us understand which pages are used. They follow Google's default settings.
  • Security and Performance Cookies: Cloudflare may set cookies to protect the site and keep it fast.

Cookie Management:

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Blocking essential cookies can stop parts of the site from working.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics with your browser settings or the opt-out tools Google provides.
  • Session cookies are removed when you close the browser or when the session ends.

Third-Party Cookies:

Google Analytics and Cloudflare may set their own cookies. Stripe may set cookies only if you open a payment page. Those cookies are governed by each provider's privacy policy.

5. Data Retention

  • Fetched page text is processed to fulfill the summary request and is not kept longer than needed for delivery, security, and abuse prevention. It is not stored as an account history of pages you summarized.
  • Contact-form messages are kept for as long as we need them to respond and to keep a record of the request.
  • Account data is kept while the account exists. You can ask us to delete it.
  • Log data is retained for up to 30 days to monitor errors, keep the Service secure, and prevent abuse.
  • Session cookies expire when you close the browser or when the session ends.
  • Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings. Google's default retention period is 26 months.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Opt out of non-essential cookies and analytics tracking
  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated

7. User Responsibilities

When you use Website Summarizer, you agree that:

  • You are responsible for the URLs you submit and for how you use the summaries.
  • You will not submit URLs to illegal content in order to harass someone, or ask the Service to fetch material you have no right to access.
  • You will not try to force access to private systems, local networks, or other addresses the Service is not meant to read.
